An increasing number of U.S. infrastructure contractors are turning to AI-driven scheduling platforms — such as ALICE Technologies — to better anticipate delays, optimize resource use and accelerate project delivery. According to ALICE’s own data, the platform has enabled reductions in project duration by up to 17 percent, with associated labour and equipment cost savings of 14 percent and 12 percent respectively.
ALICE is designed specifically for heavy civil and infrastructure works — including highways, bridges, railways and tunnels — where complex constraints such as limited access, traffic-management, supply-chain dependencies and crew workloads make traditional scheduling fragile. Contractors can import existing project plans (e.g., from Oracle Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project), then run AI-powered “what-if” analyses to simulate hundreds or thousands of possible schedule scenarios and identify the most efficient resource allocations and execution sequences.
In one documented case, a firm that faced a projected one-month delay on a “critical infrastructure” project turned to ALICE’s scheduling engine to avoid costly liquidated damages — successfully re-compressing the schedule and staying on track.
Beyond individual projects, these AI scheduling systems are reshaping the broader construction industry. A recent academic review found that AI-enabled tools consistently improve key project-management capacities — such as scheduling efficiency, resource allocation, and real-time reporting — compared with traditional manual or spreadsheet-based methods. Meanwhile, industry-wide adoption of AI and automation is gaining favour: a 2025 report from Procore estimates that up to 18 percent of project time is currently lost to inefficient data searches and 28 percent to rework, inefficiencies that AI-enabled platforms aim to eliminate.
The result: more predictable schedules, fewer delays, lower costs — and a shift toward data-driven, responsive project execution. As infrastructure demand grows across the United States, AI-powered scheduling may prove essential to delivering on time and on budget.
